Dozens more blockages due to I&R errors

25 May 2018 - Herma van den Pol

Dozens of companies are still blocked due to errors in the Identification and Registration System (I&R). This concerns dairy farmers who belong to the first group of initially blocked companies, but also companies that belong to phase 2. The aim is to have the additional assessments for the 2017 phosphate reduction plan issued in June.

Carola Schouten, Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), informed the House of Representatives that of the 2.200 initial blocked companies 41 are still blocked. Here, the results of the DNA test are still missing or the situation is 'complex'. In any case, more effort is needed from the livestock farmer to get the registration back in order.

Physical inspections
In addition to these companies, there are another 100 companies where a physical inspection was required. Of these, 83 companies have now been inspected and the other inspections must also be completed before June 1. It is not yet known which share will be released next. This is because additional information, DNA evidence or inspections may be needed to put things in order.

The aim is to have the decisions out in June. "This is with the exception of companies where the registration has not yet been corrected in such a way that a subsequent calculation can be carried out, or where a decision is not yet possible based on ongoing legal proceedings," Schouten reports.

Lactating cows without a calf
In phase 2, 42 companies are also blocked; where lactating cows walk around without a registered (dead) calf. Another 60 companies face inspections. “These are the companies with the most striking data.” These serve as a sample to determine whether more companies need to be investigated.

The fraud has thus been reduced to fewer than 100 companies, of which it cannot yet be said whether these are deliberate errors or carelessness. In the meantime, we are working hard behind the scenes to improve the I&R system. In this context, traders and livestock farmers tested the recommendations. A so-called HUF test is now taking place, after which it is determined which proposals will be taken up.
