June 6, 2018 - Herma van den Pol - 1 reaction

Cheese also proves to be a solid basis for the milk price for the month of May. The Dutch cheese makers almost all succeed in keeping the milk price stable. The only party that is reduced continues to pay the highest price, despite the reduction.

FrieslandCampina lowered the milk price for May for the sixth time in a row. For a delivery of 800.000 kilos, the price is €33,20 per 100 kilos. Although the cooperative in the European ranking scores high, this is slightly different within the Dutch playing field. Here, processors with a focus on cheese appear to be taking the lead again.

A-ware remains the leader
For example, an annual supply of 800.000 kilos of milk (with 4,41% fat and 3,47% protein) yields a milk price of €34,10 per 100 kilos at Cono. Bel Leerdammer follows with €33,87 per 100 kilos and DOC Kaas/DMK takes last place with €32,07 per 100 kilos. A-ware still manages to hold on to the number 1 position with a milk price of €34,55 per 100 kilos. The milk price did drop from April to May, but it does not undermine the leading position of the cheese specialist.

If the annual supply increases to 1,1 million kilos of milk, A-ware will be able to further expand its lead in the milk price with its higher compensation. Bel Leerdammer also managed to move further ahead of FrieslandCampina.

Interim score for the first half of 2018
In the meantime, the first interim scores for the first half of 2018 have been announced. For example, FrieslandCampina ends with a milk price of €34,45 per 100 kilos (with an annual supply of 800.000 kilos of milk with standard contents). This is not the guaranteed price, but the milk price includes deductions and other discounts. A-ware amounts to €36,22 per 100 kilos, partly thanks to the strong start to 2018.

DOC Kaas/DMK simultaneously set a price of €32,82 per 100 kilos. For a standard dairy farm, the average income is between €262.560 and €289.760 per month. Which results in a difference of €27.200.

Surcharges?
All milk prices mentioned are exclusive of VAT, but include the contribution for ZuivelNL. There are also no allowances for special milk flows included in the calculation. This is because not all dairy farmers participate in it. How that You can find what reimbursements look like here. The month of May proves to be a stable month.
