FrieslandCampina takes over Best Cheese

20 August 2018 - Herma van den Pol

FrieslandCampina takes over Best Cheese Holland. This gives the processor the opportunity to expand its cheese activities with Parrano and Tjiezi, ie cooking with cheese and cheese snacks. It is not known what amount is involved in the acquisition.

The (relatively seen) young company Best Cheese Holland was created after the sale of Uniekaas to DOC Dairy Partners, part of the German DMK. Since director Paul Wilde, sales director Arie Punt and marketing manager Maarten Jumelet saw opportunities at the time to conquer the cheese shelf with Parranno and Tjiezi, they decided to keep these brands out of the takeover.

Fastest growing brand
It is unknown why the men have now (after less than 1 year) decided not to continue independently. However, the merger with FrieslandCampina does mean that opportunities will arise for further international growth. At the same time, the Parrano brand remains one of the fastest growing consumer brands.

"With the acquisition of the dairy dip activities, including Tjiezi, the FrieslandCampina cooperative is responding to a growing need for dairy snacks in Europe, Asia and North America, among other places. The dippers are sold through retailers and international discounters," the company said.

The units will become part of FrieslandCampina from 1 September. An agreement in principle has also been reached about the import and sales activities of Best Cheese in the United States (US).
