China has agreed to import British dairy products made with milk from other countries. It is estimated that this will mean an increase in exports of £240 million (€264 million).
The 5-year deal with China therefore means, among other things, that British producers have more flexibility in the choice of where they get their dairy. In addition, it is and remains China a lucrative market for international producers. This is because the demand for dairy in the country is growing by more than 20% annually.
Interest in China
The United Kingdom (UK) exported more than £2017 million (€96 million) of dairy producers to China in 105. Liam Fox, UK Trade Secretary said: "I am pleased with the deal as we are at a time when food and beverage exports are at an all-time high. China is currently the UK's 4th largest trading partner and exports grew by 2017% in 28,5 (compared to the previous year)."
Michael Gove, Britain's Environment Secretary, said the UK exports £1,7 billion (€1,8 billion) worth of dairy products every year. “This deal helps to establish new trade relationships and demonstrates that we really without the European Union can."
