With the yellow revolution, the Lely Orbiter, robotic pioneer Lely is venturing into entirely new territory. After the introduction of feeding systems and milking robots, the company unveiled a small dairy factory for the farmyard on Wednesday 29 August. The innovation makes it possible to provide customers with cow-specific milk.
At the Dobbelhoeve Melk, partly owned by Guus van Roessel (deputy director of product management), Lely unveiled the first milk factory. A novelty that was already announced by the robot pioneer in the spring and has now become reality. With this innovation, the milk can be processed directly on the farm. The Orbiter is linked to the milking robot, after which the milk is immediately processed.
Bottle your own milk
Dairy farmers have been making cheese, curd and butter for some time, but making fresh drinking milk (for sale) on the farm is rare. It is the product with the smallest margin and most competition on the supermarket shelf. Yet Lely ventures into a machine that makes it possible to bottle milk on the farm.
The Provincial Executive has previously granted a subsidy of €125.000 at the Dobbelhoeve Melk for the Dairylink project. Lely, among others, is involved in that project. "Dairylink is developing a milk factory on the farm, where the customer can buy cow-specific milk. This way the customer can choose which milk to buy from which cow and from which company."
