Number of slaughters remains remarkably high

In the first week of September the number of slaughtered animals amounts to 13.823. It is a minus of 472 pieces compared to 1 week earlier. However, it is a plus of 9.669 compared to the same week 1 year earlier.

High slaughter figures are not a phenomenon, because the number of slaughters has been far above the line of previous years since week 25 (except for 2 weeks). In the 2 weeks that this was not the case, maintenance took place, among other things, according to comments from the field.

6,2

percent

is the backlog compared to 2017

The backlog remains
Until week 36, 455.040 cattle were slaughtered, compared to 484.883 slaughtered in the same period last year. It means that there is a deficit of 6,2%. The difference with 2017 is that the number of slaughters decreased significantly in the third quarter, because the goals of the phosphate reduction plan had been achieved.

This year the phosphate rights will come into effect. Now the price of the rights has risen sharply, there is a chance that an increase will be seen in the fourth quarter this year. In general, those who do not have their affairs in order must cull additional cows to get the balance in phosphate production and rights in order.

A single price increase
Meanwhile, after a major correction a few weeks ago, the price for beef has remained quite stable in recent weeks. This puts it between the levels of 2016 and 2017. Only in Doetinchem at week 38 the lower end of the price range has been increased.

This means that the lower end amounts to €3,80 per kilo for U slaughter cows and a lower end of €2,30 per kilo for P slaughter cows. For sausage cow class 1 the price is €1,70 to €2,20 and sausage cow class 2. quotes €1,35 to €1,60 per kilo.

The stable one cattle prices pass by the calves. The price for bull calves peaked briefly but sharply. However, it was not a sustainable price, so it has now dropped to €100. It is a price that has formed the bottom in the market since the beginning of 2017.
