A frequently heard criticism of milking with robots is the fact that pellets are used to feed the animal (during the milking). Lely is therefore introducing the so-called 'Commodity feeder', which can also be used to feed dry and wet feed materials.
The Astronaut milking robots can now only handle chunks. From next year there will be change in. Existing A4 and A5 robots can also be converted with a Commodity feeder.
Higher feed price
The chunk offered now has a double effect. On the one hand as a supplement to the feed at the feed fence and on the other as a lure, so that the animals visit the robot earlier. The disadvantage is that this feed (the concentrates) entails a higher price.
The version for raw feed ingredients can handle (crushed) barley, oats, maize or a mixed ration. According to Lely, the (financial) benefits are particularly great for companies that grow their own feed crops. The price of chunks fluctuates strongly.
The system can be set based on the dry matter content, the size of the product and the consistency.
