FrieslandCampina's first milk with the 'On the way to PlanetProof' label will be on the shelves from week 51. With this quality mark, the dairy cooperative wants to market more sustainable milk. The milk with the quality mark comes from FrieslandCampina's Top Dairy line.
This spring FrieslandCampina presented the 'Top Dairy Line' and the (butter) milk and yoghurt (white dairy) that come from this have been on the shelves since week 51. As a result, FrieslandCampina's conventional white dairy products will disappear from the shelves. This quality mark also means that the consumer has to pay more for the products concerned.
About 10% of the dairy farmers of FrieslandCampina qualifies for the seal of approval. This is offset by higher requirements regarding animal welfare, biodiversity and climate awareness. Livestock farmers who participate in the project will receive a premium of €0,01 which can rise to a maximum of €0,02 (on top of the payment price). The dairy cooperative will also reinvest part of its earnings in making the sector more sustainable.
Ministry is content
The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality is pleased with the path that FrieslandCampina has taken. Marjolijn Sonnema, director-general Agro and Nature at the ministry, was present at the presentation and said that the Top Dairy Line gives substance to the Recycling Vision of agriculture minister Carola Schouten.
"The ministry is working hard to make the agricultural sector more sustainable. That the dairy farmers act so quickly on 'PlanetProof' and we find it special to give substance to the Recycling Vision in this way. They work hard for this and therefore deserve a higher compensation," says Sonnema.
