A-ware and Glanbia, Ireland's largest dairy cooperative, are to build a cheese factory in Belview, Ireland. The costs involved are estimated at €140 million. According to Jan Anker, CEO of A-ware, the investment is in line with the company's ambitions.
The collaboration can be seen as a remarkable move, because to date A-ware has mainly been active in the Netherlands. The factory that it will build together with Glanbia will have to process 450 million liters of milk annually. The milk is supplied by dairy farmers who are affiliated with the Irish processor. The plant is expected to be operational in 2022.
Collaboration offers opportunities
Anker is pleased with the plans. He sees this collaboration as the next step in shaping the company's ambitions by building chains. Jim Bergin, CEO of Glanbia, is also happy with the collaboration. He calls A-ware a leading cheese producer and expects the collaboration to offer new opportunities to market the milk.
The news has also been welcomed in Ireland, particularly as the factory offers 80 full-time jobs and a further 100 jobs will become available during construction. According to Heather Humpreys, Ireland's Minister for Trade and Innovation, the factory is a boost to the economy in the southeastern region of the country; especially now that Brexit is approaching and that brings uncertainty with it.
