French dairy processor Lactalis issued another recall at the end of January. As with the previous action, there is a risk of salmonella in baby milk powder. There are now 16.300 Spanish-made products being recalled.
The recall concerns 'Picot AR' branded baby milk powder sold after November 29, 2018. The risk of infection came to light when 4 babies became ill from the baby milk powder of Modilac (from Savencia). This product came from the same factory.
Past issues
It is not the first time that Lactalis is recalling baby milk powder. At the end of 2017 almost 7.000 tons were recalled, also because of a risk of salmonella. As a result, Lactalis was forced to close the factory where the milk powder was produced. After the closure, Lactalis chose to do business with the Spanish manufacturer.
Salmonella can cause food poisoning and symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and vomiting. The disease is particularly dangerous for very young children and the elderly. This is because of the risk of dehydration. It is not known how the salmonella got into the baby milk powder.
