Glanbia takes big steps in milk price comparison

The average European milk price for February 2019 is €33,82 per 100 kilos of milk, which means that the price is only €0,02 lower than in . When the average milk price is compared with February 2018, it is still €1,01 (or 2,9%) lower.

Glanbia shoots up
The largest price change is for glanbia, because this processor saves €3,50 between January and February. This mainly has to do with the 'late lactation bonus' of €4 per 100 kilos. In addition, Glanbia's milk price (€35,52 per 100 kilos) includes a surcharge of €0,48 and €0,95. The latter surcharge is an advance on a possible subsequent payment. It is striking that without these allowances the milk price would have fallen by €0,25.  

In addition to the milk price of Glanbia, the milk prices of Danone and FrieslandCampina also showed an increase. Danone's milk price increases by €0,10 to €34,31 per 100 kilos and FrieslandCampina's milk price increases by €0,30 to €35,97 per 100 kilos. This has virtually no effect on the ranking for both dairy processors.

DMK's milk price fell by €1 in February to €31,73 per 100 kilos. Kerry and Dairygold decrease in the same order of magnitude, resulting in milk prices of €31,51 and €31,30 per 100 kilos respectively. In addition, Savencie (-€0,50) and Dairy Crest (-€0,60) also showed a decrease. The rest of the prices within Europe remain stable.

Next months
The expectation for the coming month is that the average European milk price will not move much. DMK, Arla, Savencia, Lactalis, Granarolo, Dairy Crest and FrieslandCampina have already announced that they will increase the milk price for March unchanged to leave. Arla's milk price (-€0,10) and FrieslandCampina (-€0,50) do show a decrease for April.
