The roughage trade continues. Forage traders let it be known that supply and demand are in balance, so prices are not ready to move. What is the expectation?
The forage traders report that there is less demand for Dutch products, mainly from abroad. This ensures that the price for meadow hay again must suffer a decline. The price drops by €5 to €205 per tonne free at farm. It should be noted that good quality still can yield €240.
The price of tall fescue is also declining a decrease to see. The price drops by €5 to €165 per tonne, free of charge. This price drop is mainly because there is less demand for this product and stocks are shrinking rapidly. The price of red fescue has managed to remain stable and is trading at €180 per tonne free of charge this week. Veldbeemd sells today for €155 per tonne, free of charge.
Balance in supply and demand
According to the forage traders, supply and demand are currently in balance. "There is somewhat less demand, but at the same time supply is also decreasing. This means that the balance is maintained," various traders say. The price for straw (both wheat and barley straw) therefore remains at €135 per tonne, free of charge.
The market for silage maize and silage maize is becoming as (very) quiet described, although no price changes are visible here. This means that the price of silage maize is still €60 per tonne, free of charge. Many traders report that they experience the price as low, but when we look at last year and the 5-year average, we see that the price is still slightly above that.
The price for perennial ryegrass remains at €155 per tonne free of charge and the price for silage grass is also stable. This price works out to €55 per tonne free at the farm. Last week the price of spent grains showed a small decrease and amounted to €2,45 per percent dry matter.
