The Dutch milk supply will also remain at its lowest level since the end of the milk quota (2015) in March this year. The difference with milk production in 2018 is increasing slightly.
De milk reception March amounts to 1.187.367 tonnes, which is 2,4% lower than in the same month in 2018. The milk is also slightly less fat than last year (4,49% compared to 4,54%). This results in a fat yield of 53.367 tons for March, which is a decrease of 3,3% compared to March 2018.
Milk production in March means that Dutch dairy farming is almost at the 5-year average. On the other hand, production figures are the lowest since the milk quota was abolished in 2015. The shrinkage of the dairy herd (due to the phosphate rights system) is an important cause of this. To illustrate: compared to the peak year of 2017, milk receipts in March are 4,2% lower.
The Netherlands leads the way
The Netherlands always leads the way in reporting production figures. In Germany and France, for example, the data for February have only recently been published. In Germany, milk production remains virtually the same as last year, while French dairy farmers (just like the Netherlands) milk less. It was previously reported United Kingdom already a record high milk supply for February.
