The breweries are fully active again and this has consequences for the price of spent grain. This has been showing a decline for a number of weeks, and this week is no different. The price drops again by €0,10 and therefore amounts to €2,25 per percent of dry matter. Demand is stable compared to previous weeks. This decrease brings the price below last year's level, when the price was €2,40 per percent dry matter during this period.

The price of corngold also showed a decline last week and amounts to €2,30 per percent dry matter. This decrease is mainly due to an increase in supply, while demand has actually decreased somewhat in recent weeks.

High prices
The price for silage maize this week remains at the current high level of an average of €60 per tonne, delivered to the farm. However, it should be noted that the very good quality is still sold at a price of €70 per tonne, free of charge. This concerns silage maize with 38% to 39% dry matter and a starch content of 380 to 400. Lower quality product is sold for prices around €50 per tonne free at the farm.

If we look at the graph below, we see that the price is still slightly above last year's price and the 5-year average. Last year the price this week was €56 per tonne, free of charge. It can also be seen that the price showed a small increase in week 19 last year. It is doubtful whether that will also be the case this year. This is because there are only little product of good quality is available.

The price of meadow hay is also currently higher than average and this week amounts to €210 per tonne, delivered to the farm. This means that the price has remained the same as last week. The price for straw (both wheat and barley straw) also remains stable and therefore amounts to €132,50 per tonne, delivered to the farm. The expectation among forage traders is that this will not change much in the short term.

Restraint
According to these forage traders, there is a lot of reluctance on the market. Buyers are wondering whether they should buy now or whether they should wait a while spring going to do. This also includes the fact that many cows can be found outside and there is more than enough grass available. The sellers also bring little product to the market. They decide for themselves whether they will need this product themselves; After all, if there is a late spring this year, it is not yet certain whether the stock is large enough.

The above ensures, among other things, a stable price of perennial ryegrass. This therefore amounts to €145 per tonne, free of charge. The prices of red fescue, tall fescue and meadow meadow also remain the same and are €180, €165 and €155 per tonne, free of charge, respectively. On the other hand, the price for grass silage shows a small increase again, bringing it to €50 per tonne, delivered to the farm. However, this does apply here the quality is leading.
