According to forage traders, there is currently a lot of poor quality silage maize on the market. This ensures, among other things, that the price of good to very good quality shows an increase. For silage maize with a VEM of 1.000, 400 grams of starch and 40% dry matter, €75 per tonne, free of charge, is now paid here and there, while previously the maximum was €70.

This price increase also ensures that the average price for silage maize shows a slight increase: +€2 to €62 per ton, free of charge. Traders also indicate that it is expected that this price level will be maintained, given that this poor quality will not simply disappear from the market.

little demand
There is little demand for the other roughage products, which is why prices have been at the same levels for weeks. This has to do, among other things, with the fact that the cows are outside and there is not much need to be purchased. The price of straw (both barley and wheat straw) will therefore remain this week at €132,50 per tonne free at the farm. The price of meadow hay is stable at €210 per tonne, free of charge.

The price of brewer's grain showed a decline last week, but is stable again this week. The price is €2,25 per percent dry matter. Red fescue, tall fescue and meadow meadow are quoted at €180, €165 and €155 respectively per tonne free of charge. It should be noted that there is still very little trade in these products.

Grass limited on the market
The fact that it is (and has been) dry is mainly reflected in the market for grass products. We wrote that earlier the protein content The first cut of grass was somewhat disappointing due to the drought, but it now also appears that a lot of product is used on the company's own farm. As a result, virtually no prices are known for this first cut. Those who dare to name a price come up with a price of €65 per ton, free of charge (with 51% dry matter).

Since there is still little clarity about fresh grass, the price of silage grass remains at €50 per tonne, delivered to the farm. Perennial ryegrass is selling again this week for €145 per tonne, free of charge.
