Milk prices have been under pressure from the start of the second quarter of this year. Following on from some Dutch milk processors, the Belgian dairy cooperative Milcobel has also lowered the milk price for April.
After the milk price remained stable in the first 3 months of 2019, the fat and protein price for April was reduced by €13,15 to €394,74 per 100 kilos. With an annual supply of 800.000 kilos, the advance price decreases by €1,07 to €34,82 per 100 kilos of milk (at Dutch contents: 4,41% fat and 3,47% protein). This includes the sustainability and quality premiums that can be earned at the dairy cooperative.
Pressure on butter prices
In an explanation, Milcobel writes that the dairy market is characterized by falling butter prices. Moreover, according to the dairy cooperative, there is little prospect of recovery. The milk price therefore no longer corresponds to the raw material value of the milk, which has resulted in a reduction.
