Cremation of phosphate rights definitively increased

June 4, 2019 - Wouter Baan

The mandatory creaming of phosphate rights will be definitively doubled to 20%. A majority in the Senate approved the amendment on Tuesday morning, June 4. The House of Representatives already voted in favor last week.

During the vote, only the PVV, the SP and the Independent Senate Group (OSF) voted against. It is striking that the SGP voted against the proposal in the House of Representatives, but agreed with the proposal in the Senate law change.

Proposal to vote against
De call of the interest groups (such as Netwerk Grondig, the Dutch Dairymen Board and the Dutch Dairy Farmers' Union) to vote against the proposal, the members of the Senate did not change their mind.

The amendment will come into effect 1 day after it has been published in the Government Gazette.
