In the path towards energy-neutral dairy farming, dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina will encourage its members to install wind turbines.
The cooperative aims for CO . by 20502- to be neutral and for this purpose investments are already being made in large-scale energy projects (such as Solar and Jumpstart). From Tuesday 11 June, member dairy farmers will have the opportunity to register for a 'small' 15-metre high windmill with a capacity of 10 to 15 kilowatts.
In the free market, such mills cost around €52.000 each, but FrieslandCampina's member dairy farmers can count on a collective discount. The energy that is generated is for own use and not intended to be fed back into the grid.
Permit
A FrieslandCampina spokesperson says there is a lot of interest in the project, although not every dairy farmer will be eligible. The relevant municipality must issue a permit, while some places in the Netherlands do not lend themselves to wind energy.
