The total export value of dairy products decreased by 2018% in 2 to almost €7,7 billion. The export value of cheese decreased by 3%. This was due to both lower prices and a lower export volume.
Less dairy was sold, particularly in Germany, Belgium and Greece. The export of non-skimmed milk powder also fell considerably, mainly due to a significantly lower export volume (-13%). The turnover of butter and butter oil actually increased by almost 5% and the export of skimmed milk powder also showed a sharp increase in volume (+18%). In particular, more exports were made to countries outside the European Union (Africa, Asia and North America).
However, these strong volume increases could not compensate for the effect of the significantly lower prices of skimmed milk powder in 2018. As a result, the enormous increase in volume has greatly reduced the export value of skimmed milk powder.
Gros remains in Europe
Approximately 7,7% of the turnover of almost €2018 billion was (as usual) generated in Europe in 75. Germany, Belgium and France are by far the largest customers. This was also no different in 2018 than in previous years. Outside the European Union, China is the most important importing country of Dutch dairy. The country has a 12% share of the total export value.
Of all the member states within the European Union, the Netherlands is the most active on the world market. With a share of 5%, the Netherlands ranks fifth among the most important dairy exporting countries in the world, after New Zealand (25%), the United States (15,4%), Australia (5,1%) and Belarus (5,1.
