Have cheese prices bottomed out?

June 27, 2019 - Wouter Baan

The declining butter market has been having a negative impact on cheese prices for a few weeks now. This sentiment may now end as butter prices appear to have bottomed out at $3.600 per tonne. This means that cheese prices are also seeking a bottom, although demand is still weak.

De high temperatures in various parts of Europe are causing a dip in milk production. This could also give the cheese market a positive incentive, but for the time being these signals are not visible.

Quotations
Based on the statements, the DCA foil cheese quotation will rise this week by €0,01 to €2,83 per kilo. This increase can be seen as a correction. The DCA quotation for Edam, on the other hand, decreases by €0,03 in to €2,73 per kilo.
