According to the traders, there is only trade in 2 products: meadow hay and new barley straw. The reason for the 'weak' trade is the fact that there are much fewer livestock in the Netherlands. We have heard that argument more than once this season, but now it seems to be expressed again. Another factor is that dairy farmers still have sufficient grass in stock and that they little to spend .

New barley straw
The first barley straw of the new harvest also appeared on the market this week; This mainly concerns product from France and Germany. Where the straw is not yet available, it is expected this week. The price varies, depending on the transport distance, among other things, from €105 to €115 per ton, free at the farm. This means that the average price is €110 per tonne, delivered to the farm.

According to various forage traders, demand is currently still somewhat 'lazy', although there appears to be plenty of demand in the south of the country. This means that the price in that region can easily be above the stated price. The price for wheat straw remains stable this week at €128 per tonne free at farm.

It was last week for the first time traded in meadow hay from the new harvest. This week, that trade has weakened somewhat. This means that the price has dropped to €160 per tonne, free of charge (-€5). It should be noted that the quality, transport distance and the cut in question determine the price.

Stable prices
If we look at the other roughage products, what is mainly visible is that things are quiet. The price for silage maize will also remain this week at €67 per ton, free of charge. The forage traders also indicate that there is still a demand for silage maize. Prices above €70 per tonne, free of charge, are still paid for the good quality.

The price of spent grain has stabilized at €2,15 per percent dry matter and there does not seem to be much change in the short term. The price for feed potatoes remains stable at €45 per tonne, delivered to the farm, although it is noted that there is virtually no trade in these (due to a shortage of product). The price for perennial ryegrass remains stable at €150 per tonne free at farm.

The price for silage grass this week is still at €50 per tonne free at the farm and the prices of red fescue, tall fescue and meadow meadow are respectively €180, €170 and €155 per tonne free at the farm. According to traders, the entire dairy market is uncertain, which makes it difficult to make a prediction. What can be said, however, is that weather will be decisive. The longer it stays dry, the more trade can be expected.
