FrieslandCampina drops out of top 3 milk price comparison

The average European milk price in May 2019 is €33,21 per 100 kilos, which is a decrease of €0,05 compared to last month. If we compare the price with May 2018, the European milk price is currently €1,20 higher (+3,7%). 

Few movements
Like last month, milk prices are again showing little movement this month. Compared to previous years, milk prices in the first 5 months of 2019 are remarkably stable. For example, the milk price of the Italian Granarolo has been at more than €38 for several weeks. In addition, Savencia's milk price remains at €34,94 and Arla is quoted at €32,62.  

Sodiaal's milk price managed to achieve a small plus (+€0,40), bringing the milk price to €34,64 per 100 kilos. This plus is mainly a result of a lower seasonal levy. A plus has also been set aside for the milk price of Kerry (+€0,50), bringing the price for the month of May to €31,91. Since almost all other dairy companies keep their prices stable, these 2 processors can move up a few places in the comparison.

However, this also applies conversely to dairy farmers who reduced the milk price in May. This applies, for example, to the price of FrieslandCampina. The milk price of this dairy cooperative dropped by €0,70 to €34,75 in May, causing the cooperative to drop to fourth place. DMK's milk price also shows a decrease (-€0,50), bringing the price to €31,20. The milk price of Dairy Crest also drops by €0,60, which is caused by a higher seasonal levy.

Coming period
Milk prices are expected to change little in June. For example, the milk prices of DMK, Arla and Savencia remain stable for that month, while Lactalis (+€0,20) and FrieslandCampina (+€0,50) have announced price increases. Dairy Crest's milk price will remain stable for the next 2 months, but will decrease slightly in June due to seasonal levies and increase slightly in July.
