Lactalis has taken another hit in its hunt for yogurt in the United States. The French dairy group has acquired the American yogurt business from the German-based dairy company Ehrmann.
For Lactalis, this is the third purchase in the US market in two years. Founded in 2009, Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy has two production sites in Brattleboro (Vermont) and Casa Grande (Arizona). The company produces and distributes yogurt and other dairy products under the Green Mountain Creamery, Liebe and private label brands for its customers.
Lactalis makes no secret of its desire to continue growing in yogurt in the United States. With Commonwealth Dairy, Lactalis now has eight factories and more than 2.400 employees in the US, producing under brands such as Président, Galbani, Parmalat, Karoun, Rondelé and Black Diamond.
In 2017, Lactalis bought, among other things, the organic yoghurt activity of Stonyfield from Danone. In early 2018, the company bought the American yogurt brand Siggi's.
