In Oman, a mega dairy farm with a capacity of eventually 25.000 cows will be created. The dairy project in the Arab country is managed by Mazoon Dairy Company. Within 10 years, the company must produce 1 million liters of milk per day.
This reports the Times of Oman† Mazoon Dairy is an integrated dairy project. In addition to a large dairy farm, there will also be a dairy factory, a sales and logistics center, a biogas installation and a field with solar panels. With the project, Oman wants to start its own dairy production, in order to reduce its dependence on imports.
More than 4.000 dairy cows now live on the dairy farm, mainly imported from Australia. The milk is currently sold on local markets or to other processors, but the plan is for Mazoon as a whole to become operational within three months. The idea is that the dairy herd and therefore also the milk production will be gradually expanded. By 2026, the company aims to produce 200 million liters of milk annually and by 2030 the 365 million liters (or 1 million liters per day) should be achieved.
Consumer dairy products such as drinking milk, yogurt, cream, cheese and ice cream are then produced in their own dairy. Oman's long-term goal is to no longer be an importer, but a net exporter of dairy.
