While the Dutch milk processors again collected less milk in June, the Irish and British farmers continue to produce considerably. The supply figures of these countries are still above last year and above the 5-year average.
British milk supplies for June amount to 1,32 million tonnes, bringing production closer to 2018 and the 5-year average. In 2018, the supply for this month amounted to 1,30 million tons and the 5-year average is also 1,30 million tons of milk. Compared with last month There is a significant decline visible, but it is explainable. The milk supply reaches a peak in May.
Correlation with milk price
The fact that the British milk supply figures put pressure on the milk price is reflected in the payment price of Dairy Crest, the largest dairy in the United Kingdom. This milk price is €29,91 per kilo in June (annual delivery of 1 million kilos, 4,2% fat and 3,4% protein), which puts the price at the lowest level of the year. In other years too, the price is at its lowest point in May and June.
Milk supplies in the United Kingdom are expected to decrease even further in the coming months. Usually the milk price then shows an increase again. Whether that will also happen this year is still somewhat uncertain. This is because there is a lot of uncertainty in the country due to Brexit. That is something that can also influence milk prices.
The Irish are also milking well
Dairy farmers in Ireland are also still producing more milk this year than last year. The milk supply for June amounts to 1,02 million tons, while last year it was 952.180 tons. A difference of about 7,5%. Compared to the 5-year average, the milk supply in 2019 is also significantly higher, because the average for June is 928.640 tons.
Milk supply reaches a seasonal peak in May, which means that the difference between May and June is significant. The milk supply in May was therefore approximately 7,8% higher than in June. In Ireland, however, noises can be heard about the livestock population must downsize.
