FrieslandCampina has expanded the VLOG milk flow (NON-GMO) by more than 200 dairy farmers. The dairy cooperative says that there is a lot of demand for cheese from this milk, especially in Germany.
FrieslandCampina launched the VLOG milk flow in 2017, which until recently counted about 400 dairy farmers. The group has expanded to 600 dairy farmers in recent months. VLOG milk means that the cows receive a GMO-free ration and grazing. Dairy farmers receive €1 per 100 kilos of milk as a supplement, in addition to the premium for meadow milk of €1,50.
A FrieslandCampina spokesperson says that the dairy farmers are mainly recruited in the areas around the factories in Steenderen (Gelderland) and Born (Limburg). The dairy cooperative does not disclose the volume of the VLOG milk flow from a competitive point of view.
Emerging
VLOG milk is on the rise, especially in Germany. More than 50% of the milk supply there is produced using this standard. The Scandinavian dairy cooperative Arla obliges its member dairy farmers in Central Europe that they will switch to VLOG feed before the end of 2019.
They say that it is not profitable to collect conventional and VLOG milk flow separately. Cono's milk lake will also be fully VLOG from 2020 onwards.
