The cheese market has been in holiday mode for weeks and this week is no exception.
There has been relatively little trade in cheese throughout the holiday period. In various Catholic countries in Europe, a public holiday is celebrated on Thursday 15 August, which means that there is emotionally less activity this week.
Impulses are missing
The price of Gouda cheese has been stable for weeks at a bandwidth between €2,80 and €2,85 per kilo. However, the undertone is weak and prices tend to move downwards rather than upwards. This is despite the producers claiming that there are few stocks and the milk supply is showing a decline in several large producing countries. However, some impulses are lacking on the demand side of the market.
Based on the figures, the DCA foil cheese quotation is stable this week at €2,82 per kilo. Edam's quotation also remains at €2,76 per kilo.
