Müller wants to close Aberdeen location

19 August 2019 - Kimberly Bakker

Müller Milk & Ingredients, the largest milk supplier in Great Britain and part of the German Müller group, is considering closing the storage location in Aberdeen. The closure is part of plans to create a sustainable future for the dairy company.

This concerns the distribution, storage and retail activities of the location in Aberdeen (Scotland). In an evaluation, the dairy processor proposes to relocate the activities to existing locations in central Scotland. While this move will create 22 jobs, the site closure is likely to result in more than 50 job losses.

Sustainable future
In a statement reports Ian Smith, the CEO of Müller's Scottish branch, that the evaluation is part of the 'Darwin' project. Launched in February, this project costs £100 million and aims to ensure a sustainable future for the dairy farmer. “We are experiencing a decline in fresh milk consumption and major changes in the retail sector. Our Aberdeen location has been hit hard by these changes, so we need to act now.”

Although a judgment will only be made in 30 days, the expectation is not positive. This is also confirmed by the fact that the company has already emphasized that it is trying to transfer all employees to other locations in Scotland.
