Compound feed company Gebroeders Fuite stops the project for rosé veal calves in Denmark. In 2017 Fuite started the Danish company in collaboration with Arentoft Agro. The target is an annual turnover of 4.500 rosé veal calves in feed stables.
The private slaughterhouse Kare Beef was supposed to slaughter the calves in Denmark, but the last 2.000 calves are slaughtered in the Netherlands. The reason why Gebroeders Fuite stops the Danish feed money stables for the rosé veal production is the lower price for this meat in Denmark, compared to the surrounding countries. The price difference would be about €0,50 per kilo of slaughtered weight.
Feed conversion
What seemed a promising project on paper (given the success of the Fuite Brothers with rosé veal in the Netherlands) did not become reality in Denmark. Additional bedding costs had to be incurred and the labor costs turned out to be higher than budgeted.
It is also more attractive to slaughter the calves in the Netherlands at 8 months of age than in Denmark (where they are slaughtered at 12 months). It is precisely in this age phase that the feed conversion quickly becomes less favourable.
