Also in August the prices for the chunks of beef showed a drop, according to new figures from Wageningen Economic Research. According to the compound feed price indicator, the bottom is far from being reached.
The price of standard chunk A fell by €0,05 last month to €23,35 per 100 kilos. Protein-rich chunk B is also cheaper because the price fell in the same order of magnitude to €25,80 per 100 kilos. This means that the price is exactly €2 lower than at the start of the season. The price of silage maize core chunks drops by €0,25 to €32,20 per 100 kilos.
Beef bull chunks have also become cheaper again this month. The price for this product will drop by €0,10 in August to €24,70 per 100 kilos. The price of pink calf chunks has fallen by €0,15 to €26,75 per 100 kilos during this period. The price is therefore more than €1 lower than in January of this year.
Bottom not in sight
An important component in beef chunks is currently soya. Today, this raw material commands a relatively low price (on average). CBOT in Chicago), with no end in sight yet. It is therefore expected that the prices of beef chunks will fall even further in the coming period. This is underlined by the compound feed price indicator van Boerenbusiness.
The compound feed price indicator shows that: for the time being no bottom has yet been reached. A relatively sharp decline is even expected between September and November, because the price of standard chunk A could fall by another €1 during this period. This is not only due to the low price of soy, but also due to the low price of another important component: palm kernel flakes.
