The German cooperative DMK Group and the British Volac have decided to terminate the 'DV Nutrition' joint venture. If the competition authorities agree, the activities will go to the cheese maker from Hoogeveen. The German company writes this on its website on Thursday 5 September.
According to the German dairy cooperative, the reason for the acquisition is the fact that both parties are choosing a different direction in the strategy. "In our strategic route for 2030 we have defined clear roles to optimally position the individual business units for the future. Part of this is that DMK focuses on creating an added value and market-oriented approach. The acquisition of the joint venture is a building block", writes Ingo Müller, the CEO of DMK Group, in the press release.
The acquisition is expected to be fully completed by January 1, 2020, although that is subject to approval from the competition authorities. It must then become part of the 'Industry' department within DMK Group. No information has been presented with regard to the acquisition price.
DV Nutrition
DV Nutrition is a joint venture between DOC Kaas, part of the DMK Group, and Volac. It has been processing whey into protein and lactose ingredients since 2004. In the joint venture, Volac was responsible for the distribution and marketing of DV Nutrition's products. The British company will continue to supply its 'Sports and Active Nutrition' customers with its protein products during a transition period. In the future, these products will be sold by DMK.
