China imports raw milk from Russia for the first time

9 September 2019 - Kimberly Bakker - 3 comments

China imported raw milk from Russia for the first time last week. According to Liu Jianbo, the dairy farm's project manager, this is a new step in trade between China and Russia.

A tanker with raw milk from Russia passed all inspections last week at the port of Heilongjiang, which is located in northeast China. The raw milk is produced on a Russian dairy farm owned by 'Zhongding Dairy Farming'. This company is located 25 kilometers from the Russian border and also has one of the largest dairy farms in the world in hands.

According to the dairy farm's project manager, the raw milk is transported in a refrigerated truck and processed within 7 hours at the factory in Mudanjiang, which is also in northeast China. "This moment marks a new phase in trade between China and Russia," said Jianbo.

Ambitions extend further
Currently, Zhongding Dairy Farming owns a dairy farm in Russia with 1.000 cows. However, the plan is to acquire another 3 Russian dairy farms with approximately 5 cows in the next 10 to 5.000 years.
