Sodiaal rises to top 3 in milk price comparison

The average milk price in the European Union for August is €33,36 per 100 kilos, which is €0,07 less than last month. If we compare the price with the milk price of August last year, it is €0,96 lower this year (-2,8%). The fact that the milk price has fallen is mainly due to price reductions by the Irish processors Dairygold and Glanbia. They have both reduced their milk price by €1 to €28,81 per 100 kilos and €28,69 per 100 kilos respectively.

However, most processors have left the milk price unchanged in August. The Italian Granarolo is also in first place this month, with a milk price of €39,33 per 100 kilos. Danone has managed to defend second place and records a milk price of €37,45 per 100 kilos, although this is €0,10 lower than in July. FrieslandCampina also keeps the milk price stable and quotes €34,51 per 100 kilos. The Dutch cooperative is therefore in seventh place.

The French dairy company Sodiaal has taken a big step, because this dairy processor increased the milk price by €1,50 in August. This brings the milk price to €37,16, which increases it to third place in the milk price comparison. This increase is due to a higher seasonal allowance. As a result, Savencia drops to fourth place and quotes €35,91 per 100 kilos.

Prices have influence
The milk price of Saputo Dairy UK shows a decrease from €0,60 to €31,50 per 100 kilos in August. However, this decline is entirely due to the fact that the value of the British pound (relative to the euro) has fallen. If we look at the milk price in pence per liter, the price has not changed since February of this year. The British processor is also keeping the milk price stable for September and October.

Also the drop in the milk price of the New Zealand dairy cooperative Fonterra is entirely due to a lower rate of the New Zealand dollar compared to the euro. The milk price drops in August by €0,90 to €28,44 per 100 kilos.

Little change expected
It is expected that little will change in the milk price comparison of LTO Netherlands in the coming months, as many dairy farmers have already reported that they will keep the milk price stable in September. This includes Arla and FrieslandCampina, although the former has said that it will reduce the milk price at least in October (-€0,10 per 100 kilos).
