The mood on the cheese market has been positive for some time and this trend is now continuing. The DCA foil cheese quotations (Gouda and Edam) took another step up this week.
The cheese market receives support from several quarters. For example, there is little cheese in stock and seasonal milk production is at its lowest point in the year. In addition, butter and skimmed milk powder have long provided the best valorisation of raw milk, resulting in less cheese being produced. This is evident from the ZuivelNL listing of whey powder which rose again this week for the first time since January.
Due to the tight conditions, Gouda and Edam are sought after, although this also applies to other cheeses. Demand for the short term (October) is especially good. There is still some uncertainty in the longer term, which is fueled by the possible American import duties on cheeses from Europe.
Fourth increase in a row
This does not alter the fact that the DCA foil cheese quotation for Gouda has risen for the fourth week in a row this week. The price increases by €0,01 to €2,92 per kilo. The price of Edam narrows the bandwidth with Gouda and goes up by €0,02 to €2,86 per kilo.
