Müller Milk & Ingredients, the largest milk supplier in Great Britain and part of the German Müller group, warns dairy farmers in Scotland about the enormous increase in milk production. "This situation is not sustainable and has significant environmental consequences."
The dairy processor writes in a statement that it has received about 2014% more milk since 25. "This increase is not sustainable as it is not supported by the demand for fresh dairy products in Scotland," it wrote. Recent figures show that consumption has continued to fall in recent years. This was also the reason for the processor to the production location in Aberdeen to close.
Transport kilometers
Müller writes that this means that it transports 180 million liters of milk every year to the factories in England. “The financial costs and environmental impact of moving this milk are significant, so we urgently need to find a solution,” said Rob Hutchinson, director of milk supply and operations at Müller.
The company will discuss the matter in the coming month with the so-called 'Müller Milk Group', the board made up of suppliers and dairy farmers. As a result of that meeting, it will be determined which measures will be taken.
