Australia's milk supply for August amounts to 692.902 tonnes, which is approximately 5,9% less than last year. In 2018, production in the same month amounted to 736.468 tons of milk. Milk production is also behind the 5-year average: -5,6%. It is striking that the fat and protein contents in the milk are slightly higher. The fat content in August is 0,7% higher than last year and amounts to 3,90%. The protein content is 0,6% higher at 3,45%.
Dairy Australia figures also show that this season's milk production is 6,9% behind last year. In the 2019/2020 season, 1,294 million tons of milk have been collected so far, compared to 1,391 million tons in the same period last year.
Queensland posts biggest decline
Milk supplies in Queensland fell the most in August. In that region, milk production in this month is 13,4% lower than last year. This brings production to 29.622 tonnes. Dairy farmers in the country's largest milk-producing state, New South Wales, produced 92.585 tonnes of milk in August, down 6,1% on the same month last year.
