No stricter nitrogen rules in Flevoland

16 October 2019 - Jeannet Pennings - 2 comments

The province of Flevoland will not impose any additional rules on top of the national nitrogen policy. That is the outcome of the consultation on Wednesday morning, October 16, between a delegation from the province and a farmer's delegation.

At the table were a number of Flevoland farmers on behalf of LTO Noord, the Flevolands Agrarisch Jonge Kontak (FAJK) and the Dutch Dairy Farmers' Union (NMV). The demands they had put on the table (suspension of the agricultural part in provincial policy rules) were partly granted.

Deputy Harold Hofstra said during the emergency meeting that Flevoland does not go further than national policy. He also said that the policy rule only applies to the new permits and that the current (NB) permits will not be affected. The latent space will not be taken away further and will remain at the disposal of the current permits.

Good and open conversation
The farmers' organizations continue to demand that partitions be placed between the sectors. They did speak of a good and open conversation, in which the farmers were able to catch up with the commissioner about the current problems and the unrest and uncertainty surrounding the PAS issue.

Hofstra has indicated that he is awaiting clarity from the minister, because it concerns national policy. He has promised to stand up for the agricultural sector within the Interprovincial Consultation (IPO) with the 11 other provinces that will take place this afternoon.

New consultation
Monday morning 21 October, the day before the board meeting, all parties will once again sit down with Hofstra. Then the farmer's delegation is brought up to date about the consultations in IPO and central government.
