The stocks of whole and skimmed milk powder in Argentina have been skimmed considerably, according to figures from the Ministry of Agriculture in the country. After New Zealand and the European Union, the South American country is the largest exporter of whole milk powder.
The stock of whole milk powder had almost halved in August compared to the same measurement a year earlier, while skimmed milk powder volumes have even more than halved. For example, the stock of whole milk powder fell by 47,1% to 110.000 tons. The stock of skimmed milk powder fell by 56,3% to 26.000 tons.
The stocks of cheese and pasteurized milk were also significantly lower. Dairy stocks fell by 25% to 851.000 tonnes, with August volumes recording the lowest volumes for that month in 7 years.
Growing exports
The lower inventories are the result of increased export volumes in recent months. Argentina is the fifth largest producer of whole milk powder and the third largest exporter. In terms of the trade in skimmed milk powder, the country only plays a supporting role on the world market.
