Dairy farmers in New Zealand are now working towards the peak in milk supply, according to figures from government agency DCANZ. The milk supply is also fairly stable, because the differences with last year and the 5-year average are minimal.
Milk production in New Zealand in September amounted to 2,664 million tonnes of milk, which is almost double compared to last month. That is not surprising, by the way. If we look at the seasonal trend, it is clearly visible that the milk supply always increases sharply during this period of the year.
Rate remains the same
Last year, the milk supply for September amounted to 2,682 million tons, which means that milk production this season is only approximately 0,6% lower. Even compared to the 5-year average, only a small change is visible. The average for this month is 2,598 million tons, which is approximately 2,5% lower than the average this year.
When we look into the future, we can at least say with certainty that milk production in the coming month will be slightly higher than in September. Milk production in New Zealand usually reaches a peak in October. After that, milk supply will reportedly decrease again.
