Dairy sector blows up consultations about its own nitrogen plan

25 October 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 10 comments

The Dutch dairy sector has blown up its own consultations about an alternative proposal to curb the nitrogen problem. After flaming criticism from farmers' advocates and protests at the offices of FrieslandCampina and ZuivelNL, some parties chose eggs for their money. They have withdrawn from the so-called TaskForce Ammonia.

As a result, the task force was immediately disbanded and consultations on nitrogen and ammonia in dairy were ended, the Dutch Dairy Organization (NZO) said on its website, among others. The abolition was the final piece of a hot day between the agricultural sectors, its representatives and chain organizations. That started this morning (Friday 25 October) with a statement of the Farmers Defense Force (FDF) and the Dutch Dairymen Board (DDB).

They indicated that in a major consultation between all sectors within livestock farming, intensive livestock farming, arable farming, fruit cultivation, trade unions, LTO, FDF and Agractie, an agreement was reached to act jointly in, among other things, protests and advocacy in nitrogen policy. This pact was heralded as a "legendary move." At the same time, the same statement from the organizations furiously issued to the parties in the dairy sector who wanted to submit their own nitrogen proposal to the cabinet within the Ammonia Task Force. There was talk of 'code red.'

The farmers' organizations particularly denounced the fact that the dairy drew its own plan, right through the current farmers' protests, and in the nitrogen proposal also suggested introducing technical measures on the dairy farm. The TaskForce Ammonia had wanted to present this plan today and also to submit it to the cabinet, but that is no longer the case.

After the fierce reaction of the farmers' representatives, farmers with tractors also protested in front of the FrieslandCampina headquarters in Amersfoort and ZuivelNL in Zoetermeer. Once it became clear that the dairy sector had withdrawn its plan, the protests ended and the triggers disappeared. How the shards are now being glued between the dairy sector and the collective farmers' representatives is still unclear.

FrieslandCampina is in any case under a magnifying glass these days with the affiliated member dairy farmers. For example, they strongly criticize the proposal on adjusting the guaranteed price and the cooperation of the dairy group with Natuurmonumenten and the World Wildlife Fund.

Folks, the solution is not in halving the farmers!!!!

Rivm has already admitted that half of the farmers are gone, not helping. That it doesn't even help if all the farmers are gone, because then there is still a nitrogen problem!!!

So we have to look for it in politics and the covenant that the Green Left has concluded with Rutte and the coalition.
That half of the livestock has to go, then Jesse Klaver supports everything Rutte wants.....

We should sue the government for mismanagement.

By acting completely without vision in this small country, the government has allowed too large companies, up to 60000 pigs, 500000 chickens and 1500 cows, while that was not possible at all.

The government has made serious mistakes in designating nature reserves through greed. And we must therefore demand that those natural areas disappear. They are parks.

We should sue them for maladministration, because despite being farmers we are also citizens of the Netherlands.

And that's not how you treat residents of the Netherlands!!!

@best that seems like a good idea! Starting with all staff who have worked together to lower the milk price for (so-called) profits to increase to increase their own bonus and to stop compulsory contributions to nzo, this has never brought anything good for the dairy farmer, only providing work for people like the large and associates.

Far too many staff at FC are at the expense of the milk price.

if this doesn't get a tail you better leave at fc because trust is seriously damaged

Well seen Ton, politics is totally rotten. It's a shame that Klaver was not cut in the pan in Ethiopia.

The problem is that the persons in the members' council / board can always act with inside information and always leave other members behind. I propose that the new Supervisory Board, Board and Members' Council resign, you are always knowingly fooling your own members! Staff will also have to leave who wants to trick the hard-working farmer more and more money for profit, so that this staff member again gets a BIG bonus on the farmer's back!!

If we as members (owners) have to pay the staff of RFC on average more wages than the average farmer earns for the hours worked (7 days a week 24 hours a day including jointly and severally responsible for ALL risks)! Then I wonder what the hell is RFC (board, RVC and members' council doing)?

FRC must be concerned with the profitable running of the factories and especially the valorisation of milk (products) they want to sit too much in the hands of the farmers!
