Milk production in the European Union is also slightly ahead of last year in August, according to new figures from the European Commission. All in all, it is clear that this year follows the seasonal trend, with a further decline in the offing.
Dairy farmers in the European Union produced 13,19 million tons of milk in August. This is approximately 3% less than last month, although that is not surprising (looking at the seasonal trend). Compared to the same month last year, milk production is approximately 1% higher this year. In 2018, milk production in August amounted to 13,07 million tons.
Distance to average
When we look at the 5-year average, European dairy farmers have accelerated considerably. This year's milk supply is almost 2% higher than the 5-year average. This amounts to 12,96 million tons of milk. Whether this pace can be maintained remains to be seen.
