Milk production in Poland took a nosedive in September. As a result, the Polish milk supply is approaching last year's level, according to the latest figures from the European Commission.
Polish dairy farmers produced 972.510 tons of milk in September, the figures show. Although this is still the highest level since 2010, the distance from last year has narrowed considerably. In 2018, 964.760 tons of milk were produced in September, which is only 0,8% less than this year. Last month the distance compared to 1 year earlier was still 2,2%.
Average lags behind
When we look at the 5-year average, it is clearly visible that milk production is still leading this season. The average is 935.290 tons, which is 3,9% less than this year's production. The fact that the average is so low is mainly due to milk production in 2016. In that year, the milk supply in September was only 898.160 tons.
