Arla invests in mozzarella production

12 November 2019 - Kimberly Bakker

With an investment of €80 million, dairy company Arla plans to double the production of mozzarella at the Danish factory 'Branderup Dairy'. The dairy company announced this on 11 November.

According to the cooperative, the European market for mozzarella will increase from 650.000 tons in 2019 to 720.000 tons in 2022. It wants to respond to this by expanding the factory in Denmark to an annual production of 91 million kilos of mozzarella. "An expansion of this magnitude puts Arla at the forefront as a leading producer of mozzarella," Arla said in a statement Verkaring.

Work on the expansion of the Danish plant will start in early 2020 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021 rounded. The expansion will also create 25 new jobs.

Sustainability first
The 'Branderup Dairy' factory also needs to be made more sustainable right away. For example, the use of water will be reduced. This focus on water reuse and the other production improvements is a step towards Arla's climate goals. In 2030, the dairy farmer wants to reduce the CO2emissions by 30% (compared to 2015) and in 2050 does it want CO2- neutral working.
