In September, dairy farmers in Germany produced 2,603 million tons of milk. This is approximately 1,3% more than the same month last year. In September 2018, milk production amounted to 2,570 million tons. It is somewhat striking that the supply for the second month consecutively above the 2018 level. This is because production in the previous months, with the exception of March and August, was below the level of last year.

Above average production
On the other hand, milk production in Germany is consistently above the level of the 5-year average. This amounts to 2,560 million tons, which means an increase of approximately 1,7%. The fact that the average is so low is partly due to the significantly lower milk supply in 2016. In that year, milk production in September was 2,489 million tons, a difference of approximately 4,5% compared to this year.

If we look at the seasonal pattern for the last months of this year, it is expected that the milk supply in October will be slightly higher than this month. Another decline is expected for the month of November.
