Production in Australia reached its seasonal peak in October, according to the latest figures from Dairy Australia. However, dairy farmers in the country are unable to narrow the gap with last year.
Australia's dairy farmers produced 961.150 tonnes of milk in October, which is around 3,4% less than last year. Last year, milk production in the same month amounted to 994.700 tons. The 5-year average for the month of October is 1,01 million tons, which is approximately 5,5% more than was produced in October this year. Towards last month an increase is visible.
In addition, the fat and protein contents in milk this month are also lower than in the past 2 years. In October, the fat content in Australia is 3,83% and the protein content is 3,35%. In 2018 this was 3,89% fat and 3,38% protein and in 2017 those percentages amounted to 3,89% fat and 3,37% protein. Milk supply in Australia is currently 5,8% behind last year. To date, 2019 million tons have been produced in the 2020/3,11 season, compared to 3,30 million tons last year.
