A number of small price movements are visible on the feed market this week. It is striking that the price for straw is falling, while demand is increasing slightly. What's up with that? In addition, the price of silage maize cannot remain at a record high.
Traders report that there is slightly more demand for straw this week, although that is usual at this time of the year. It is striking that the price still drops by €0,05 to €100 per tonne, free of charge. This is because there is more than sufficient supply of straw available, both in the Netherlands and Germany. This also means that traders do not think that the price will make any big jumps.
The price for meadow hay remains stable this week at €170 per tonne, after... last week an increase was visible. Supply and demand are currently in reasonable balance, which means that the price cannot rise further. The price does depend on the quality; the better, the higher. Perennial ryegrass has not been traded for weeks, so the price is also €110 per tonne this week. The same applies to silage grass, which is now trading at €50 per tonne for the thirtieth week.
Minimal supply of spent grains
The supply of spent grains is very tight, which is partly due to a production stop at a brewery. However, demand remains good, causing an imbalance in the market. This means that the price remains at a high level: €2,70 per percent of dry matter, although the price in the country may still differ slightly due to transport costs. Traders expect the price to remain high at least until the end of the year. Many livestock farmers opt for brewer's grain during this period to bring peace to their ration.
The price of silage maize has left last week's record level behind. The price drops by €5 to €70 per tonne, free of charge. Traders report that €75 per ton is just a step too high. Incidentally, a price of over €70 per tonne is still paid for 'really' good quality, although the supply is small. Not many changes are expected for this product either.
There is still very little trade in red fescue, tall fescue and meadow meadow. This means that the prices for those products will also remain stable this week at €150, €130 and €135 per tonne, free of charge, respectively. Traders do not expect much to change in the short term.
