In October, dairy farmers in Germany produced 2,59 million tons of milk. This is about 0,8% less than last year, because in October 2018 milk production was 2,61 million tons. The production shows a somewhat striking picture in October. This is because the milk supply in this month usually shows an increase compared to 1 month earlier; in 2017, milk supply increased by 2,2% and in 2018 by 1,6%. This year a decrease of approximately 0,3% is visible.

Just above 5-year average
Due to the decline, milk production in Germany has fallen to just above the 5-year average. This average for the month of October is 2,58 million tons, a difference of only 0,1%. When we take a look at previous years, then the milk supply will perform in the middle range this year. Compared to 2017, a negative difference of approximately 1,3% can be seen, but compared to 2016, milk production is actually 3,5% higher this year. The milk supply for the month of October was also lower in 2013 and 2014.

If we look at the seasonal pattern of German milk production, it appears that the country's milk supply will decrease further in the coming month. Another increase is then expected for December.
