A small majority of FrieslandCampina's Members' Council today (Tuesday 17 December) approved the proposal to change the guaranteed price. The CowMonitor will also become part of Foqus planet.
In October, the dairy cooperative announced it milk money scheme want to review. The plan's most striking measure is a reduction in the guaranteed price, which means that some double surcharges will disappear from 2020. In concrete terms, this means that the milk price will drop slightly less than 1 cent.
Much excitement among the members
The proposal, which was made by FrieslandCampina in order to remain competitive, encountered a great deal of resistance among member dairy farmers. The proposal was one of the reasons for the establishment of the 'Concerned Friesland Campina Farmers' collective.
They disagreed with the plans. The proposal also led to much fuss during the various members' meetings that are organized in different places in the country. Now that the soup seems to have cooled down somewhat at the end of 2019, the proposal will pass thanks to the support of a small majority.
€24 million for sustainability measures
The dairy cooperative also announces that KoeMonitor will become a basic requirement within Foqus planet. €24 million will be made available for dairy farmers to take sustainability measures. This will be settled in the milk money in the coming years.
