The milk supply in the European Union in October is in line with the level of 2018, according to the latest figures from the European Commission. If we take a look at the 5-year average, we still have a good lead.
Dairy farmers in the European Union produced 12,67 million tons of milk in October. This is approximately 0,3% more than in the same month last year (12,63 million tons). This means that the European Union's milk supply maintains its minimal lead over last year. Towards last month an increase of approximately 1,1% is visible, but that is not surprising. Milk production usually shows an increase between September and October.
More than last 5 years
Although production is moving reasonably in line with last year's milk supply, a larger gap is visible compared to the 5-year average. This year's milk supply is about 1,5% higher than the 5-year average in October (12,48 million tons). This is not necessarily surprising, because milk production has been above this level all year round.
If we take a look at the last 2 months of the year, the European milk supply is expected to show a small decline again in the coming month. Milk production may then increase slightly again in the last month of the year.
