Deal between Van Bakel and Van der Steege bounces off

7 January 2020 - Wouter Baan - 23 comments

The sale of the dairy farm of the Van der Steege family from Luttelgeest to the Van Bakel brothers has partly failed. Both parties failed to agree on the land and buildings, so that only the cows and phosphate rights were transferred.

Halfway through last year it was announced that the brothers René and Alex van Bakel the dairy farm from the Van der Steege family, with 750 cow places and a manure digester. The associated land would be issued on a long lease. Now it appears that the deal has largely failed.

Buy dissolved
When asked, René van Bakel says that the planned purchase was dissolved on December 6, because, according to him, there was 'no agreement on the conditions'. He leaves the exact reason undisclosed. According to Van Bakel, the reporting of the alleged deal in June last year was also premature. "When that was in the media, a lot had already been achieved, but no final agreement was made. At the time, I was not heard back."

According to Van Bakel, the deal is not completely rejected. According to him, the approximately 500 cows and associated phosphate rights were purchased by his company. These animals are divided over the 3 locations that the brothers operate in Limburg, among others. "The cows are of good quality," says Van Bakel.

'Heavily disappointed'
Henk van der Steege is deeply disappointed that he is left with the buildings. According to him, sales have more or less fallen in the water. "The deal has only gone through for a very small part," he said. He says he does not want to give any further explanation at the moment.

Why should this be written about?
Large companies are often sold and conditions are not discussed through the media!
durk 7 January 2020
Now an obsolete object, the vultures will already be flying around.
I would not have expected that from a broker like Henk van der Steege to be left with an obsolete object.

Uninteresting news.

A case of the bear.
Exactly where every arable farmer is pretty much me, everyone wants the ground but the buildings how do you get rid of that

What an interesting news, if it is so ridiculous that Bakel's can continue to grow, the sick people of the Netherlands with their mega stables mess it up for other farmers who just keep doing it.

another dirty joke from the family list and deceit v/d alley could have known.

It's always the same with them

Old news, already known at the beginning of December.
Get well soon for Henk, he has other things on his mind unfortunately.

Bah, types like van Bakel continue to raise their legs, despite their own debacle in the USA.
palm 7 January 2020
that's how Van Bakel used to do it anyway.... remove cattle, and the selling party was immediately in trouble.

Two money wolves who think they are both the smartest. We have seen it before in the NOP.

Strange story that lacks a lot of context in my opinion. That last paragraph seems so strange that one party comes out of the deal disappointed. Wasn't he himself at the table during those negotiations or did he sign a blank agreement that was later filled in by Van Bakel?
And the ground stays with the buildings, as can be read?
Joep 8 January 2020
Henk van de Steege really does not allow himself to be cycled over.
fc farmer 8 January 2020
van Bakel had also bought a farm near Steenwijk as a Jongvee location.
Also obtained phosphate rights and sale dissolved according to hearsay...
Peter34 8 January 2020
@ Joep Henk van de Steege really does not allow himself to be cycled over.
That's right, there are farmers in the NOP who can shoot him.
But that of Bakel, someone who (among other things) wants to sell for health reasons, does so with the bear is a low region of these southerners. read that not the first time.

That's what entrepreneurs are called. That is how outsiders (banks, suppliers, customers) also like to see it: true entrepreneurship not hindered by morality or conscience because only money counts.
Which farmer wants to continue to be an entrepreneur?
We allowed that judgment to be persuaded.

Not bad at all, they both cheated and robbed the business in the past. These two companies controlled the milk trade.
I hope they both get off the money as they came. These big money wolves got a lot of money over other people's backs not earned. You earn money in an honest way and then I have a lot of respect for it. But these companies have pressured many farmers into paying so much for the quota and underpaying the sellers
Henk 9 January 2020
@ Durk; why obsolete object? A current stable on a large plot of land is almost always in demand. The downside may be the size. Not everyone is looking for a farm for 750 cows.

Van Bakel and van der Steege are not the only brokers who have founded large companies in the Netherlands with their trade, with the money they earned from the farmers. several examples and names are known. we need not feel sorry for these gentlemen.
